About this Session

Please note: This session will take place concurrently (and in collaboration with) the HHS/IOM Health Data Forum taking place in Washington, DC on June 9, 2011.

Have health data, will travel.  The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and the Institute of Medicine (IOM) have been involved in a project designed to free health data from the confines of government archives and put it into the hands of innovators, entrepreneurs, communities and ultimately patients and health providers.

Led by Todd Park, HHS’ chief technology officer, the agency has helped expand the scope and impact of the Government 2.0 movement, unleashing data that has led to a range of new applications and tools that have helped put data into the hands of those who need it most: patients and health providers.

On June 9, 2011, HHS and the Institute of Medicine will hold the second annual Health Data Initiative Forum in Washington, DC.  This event is designed to feature the importance of health and healthcare data with a common goal of supporting more informed decision-making by consumers/patients, healthcare systems, and community officials responsible for health. The DC event is at full capacity.

unNiched(micro) is part of the Path of the Blue Eye Project, a global initiative designed to foster collaboration and knowledge sharing among health marketing communications professionals from around the world.  We view health data and technology as critical components of any effort to educate and persuade providers and patients to pay attention and improve behaviors.

To that end, the Project (in conjunction with HHS and IOM) is holding a special free satellite unNiched(micro) breakfast event where attendees can:

  • View a portion of Health Data Initiative Forum proceedings remotely
  • Network with others interested in marrying health data and technology to improve communication, outcomes and spark behavior change in patients and health providers
  • Hear executives from HHS and other organizations discuss the implications of the Forum for innovation, outcomes and health communications
